First 100 Days
FDR's first 100 days were spent working with Congress to pass new laws and programs to fight the crisis of the great depression. He was able to pass 15 major bills during his first 100 days in office. He was able to get Congress to pass bills that helped socially, economically, and that created jobs. These bills increased the involvement of federal government in a crisis and increased its authority. He created the Federal Emergency Relief Administration, the Civil Works Administration, the Works Progress Administration, and the Public Works Administration. Each Administration focused on either creating jobs, helping the unemployed, or circulating money. He also proposed a program to recover business and agriculture, and to those in danger of losing farms or homes.
FDR's beliefs
With FDR's creation of the New Deal, he was able to shed a light of hope onto the faith of Americans. Even though many opposed the New Deal, Roosevelt acted upon this by creating new reforms. The New Deal consisted of three main focuses: relief, recovery and reform. These were aimed at boosting the economy and preventing another crisis like the Great Depression from ever happening again. It was also meant to relieve Americans who were suffering because of poverty and unemployment. FDR believed in taking action to help Americans and the economy, unlike Hoover's rugged individualism and laissez faire approach. FDR also proposed what is called a "safety net" in his approach. These "safety nets" were social security and unemployment insurance, which provides for physical, material and social needs rather than the people having to provide for their own. FDR 's New Deal and approach of taking action through programs and reforms helped America and its economy to get out of the depression and back to regaining prosperity.
